Panel media release on close of submissions on Draft Findings
30 May 2012
The Metropolitan Local Government Review Panel issued the following media release on 30 May 2012:

Metropolitan Local Government Review Panel Draft Findings Submission Period Closed.

The submission period on the Draft Findings of the Metropolitan Local Government Review Panel has now closed.

The Panel’s Chair Professor Alan Robson said “The Panel hoped that the Draft Findings Paper would provide a platform for encouraging further discussion and I appreciate the time and effort many people put into their submissions.  I am pleased to report that over 180 submissions on the Draft Findings have been received, and most of these can be viewed through the Panel’s website."

The Panel provided a 4 week period to comment on the Draft Findings as a further way for the community to be involved in discussion on the best way to govern the metropolitan area. “The Draft Findings Paper represented the Panel’s thinking on the future of local government in metropolitan Perth and was a progress report, not a final position paper”, Professor Robson said.

The Panel has commenced the process of reviewing each submission and will be incorporating relevant issues into its Final Report.  This Final Report, to be provided to the Minister for Local Government by the end of June 2012, will detail the Panel’s recommendations and options in accordance with its Terms of Reference.

Professor Robson said “The Final Report will present the Panel’s research, analysis and judgement on the best ways to build the strength, capacity, effectiveness and authority of local government and most importantly on how to deliver the best outcomes for metropolitan Perth”.
